Happy St. Patty’s Day!
March 17, 2008Listening To: U2 – One
Today is the day that the general public celebrates an mainly Irish holiday by wearing green, surrounding ourselves with shamrocks and drinking green beer until we pass out.
Ah, yes. What a blessed holiday ’tis.
My St. Patrick’s Day was spent driving to town, seeing my guidance counselor, leaving without my recommendation letter (long story- see Jill Kill Goes To College for more details) and then going to Wal-Mart to buy more scrapbook supplies I’ll probably never use.
For the record, I’m part Irish: enough to say “I’m part Irish” but not enough to brag about it like somebody I know. All and all, I’m saving my St. Patrick’s Day celebrating for next year… I wonder if green food dye will work in a screwdriver.
Speaking of vodka, how come St. Patrick’s Day is the only holiday associated with a country? Shall we have Strudel Day to celebrate Germany? Tea and crumpets to celebrate England? Vodka Day to celebrate Russia? Haggis Day to celebrate Scotland?
(Some of my friends would argue that Robbie Burns covers Scottish culture. However, this holiday is not nearly celebrated as widely as St. Patrick’s Day. Thus, I think my argument is still valid.)
Well, be you Irish or not, I hope everyone has a good and safe non-denominational St. Patty’s Day anyway!
